junk space:
Because of the incredible density within Taipei it was rare to find a space that wasn’t being used in some way.  Most spaces fulfilled multiple uses through various parts of the day.  For example; shops would use the space in front of their store to display goods during the day and then often rent it out to night vendors, complete with water and electric.  This was one of the very few pockets in Taipei that went neglected.
